Basketball League Finals

Wednesday January 28th  was a very special day in Scoil San Treasa from the minute the school opened because both the girls and boys basketball teams had made it to the finals of their basketball leagues for the first time ever in the history of the school thanks to both our coaches Ms. Noone and Ms. Scully.

Firstly  when we went into the school we went into our classrooms sat down and said the morning prayers. Then when the clock struck nine bells we headed out to our buses, the two sixth classes on one bus with Ms. English, Ms. Scully, Mr. Cadigan and Ms. McCallion and the two fifth classes on the other with Ms. Noone, Mr. Maguire, Mr. Connelly and Mr. Maguire’s student teacher. When we got there we grabbed our gear bags and went in the side entrance onto the court nearest to the front of the arena.

Girls Basketball - Match Report

The girl’s match started at ten o’clock and lasted for forty minutes. The final score was 42-4. Both the team and the coaches were overjoyed with this result. But we didn’t just get to a final; there was a lot of hard work behind the scenes. Every Friday morning both the girls from Ms. Conroy’s and Mr. Cadigan’s classes trained in the yard from 8.10 until 9 o’clock with our coach Ms. Scully (who plays for the Irish basketball team.) The teams would not  exist if it wasn’t for the coaches Ms. Scully and Ms. Noone who started both the girls and boys teams in our school. We are very proud to have reached the final and very grateful to our coaches. We hope that there will be just as much fun and interest shown next year!

Boys Basketball – Match Report

Now it was the boy’s turn for victory but we had a lot to live up to. When we went on to the court we started off with our warm ups, lay ups then free throws, then bank shots and then, last but not least, a few three pointers for good measure. Then the match started and Luke came out with a massive three pointer and the crowd went crazy, it was literally like something you’d witness in the NBA. Definitely the highlight of the game by far I’d say. After the first quarter we were up by twelve points and on a high. Then after the second quarter had finished it was fairly low scoring with a score of fourteen to two with a total of two baskets each in that quarter. When the third quarter started back up again Robert scored a nice lay up from a beautiful ball passed in by Mark on the fast break. The noise and chants from the crowd was phenomenal. It was a truly great experience playing there for all of us, not only myself I’m sure. After the fourth quarter with a few subs from Ms. Noone to seal the deal …… we had won. The excitement of the world was on every one in our school and the day will, I’m sure never be forgotten by any of us and cherished for the rest of our lives. After the game we shook hands with the other team and our medals were presented to us by a professional Irish basketball player. Then as you can expect the bus was great fun on the way home with no sad faces.   It was a day in Scoil San Treasa that we will all remember for years to come. I’d also like to say thank you to everyone who helped and made it happen on behalf of the team and myself.
