Ms. O’Daly’s 2nd class were busy in early March celebrating World Book Day. To mark the event we wrote our own narrative stories.

To begin with, we explored the opening and most descriptive sentences from some of our favourite books, including books by David Walliams, Enid Blyton, Roald Dahl and Jeff Kinney. We made a list of these on our classroom wall to help us make our final drafts more exciting for us and for our readers. The next thing we did was create a story plan; this involved creating charming characters, petrifying plots, disastrous dilemmas and spectacular settings. We followed a basic layout of beginning, middle and end so that our stories made sense. Once we had created our stories we wrote them down in our best handwriting and drew beautiful illustrations to bring our stories to life. The final thing we did was give our stories their titles and we wrote a short blurb on the backs of our books. Please feel free to call by our classroom some morning when dropping your child to school, when you will have an opportunity to pick up one of our fascinating stories to see what Pope Francis got up to when he visited Mount Merrion, what Michael D Higgins was faced with bringing his dog for a walk in Phoenix Park and what Lia the cat really does when you leave her on her own!
