World Book Day in Scoil San Treasa
World Book Day promotes reading for pleasure, offering every child and young person the opportunity to have a book of their own. Reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a child’s future success – more than their family circumstances, their parents’ educational background or their income! Spending just 10 minutes a day reading and sharing stories with children can make a crucial difference to their future success and it’s fun for all involved.
We celebrated World Book Day on the 3rd of March. All classes explored lots of fun reading and writing activities.
Sixth Class:
To celebrate World Book Day, we created terrific six-word stories. The short style of narrative writing, made famous by Ernest Hemingway, is an entire story told in six words. We had great fun creating our stories, check out some of our favourites below!
Third Class:
We looked at all of our favourite books and discussed what made them special. Using 'tags' (genre, author, length, age rating) we connected each book to another, creating a very long book chain! This way, we all had a book that was similar to our own for us to read next.
