Advent is taken from the Latin word ‘adventus’ meaning ‘coming’ and it marks the beginning of our Church year.

It starts on the fourth Sunday before Christmas, which this year was December 1st and it ends on Christmas Eve.

The themes of Advent are

• Love

Traditionally the primary colour of Advent is purple, which reflects the waiting before Christmas. On the third Sunday in Advent the colour changes to pink as we begin to rejoice at the birth of Jesus.
