Patrick Hunt visited 5th and 3rd Class this week!

We thoroughly enjoyed learning even more about Biodiversity. On this occasion we focused on the insects living in the school environment. Patrick Hunt shared his wisdom once more, explaining the immense variety of bugs in Ireland, there are more than 30 species of woodlouse alone!

We headed to the Outdoor classroom. Upon arrival Patrick asked us to take a moment of silence, tune into nature and focus on all the small creatures buzzing and crawling around. Armed with a spoon and pot, we split up in search of interesting insects. We found spiders, slugs, ants, centipedes, caterpillars, and even a blue headed woodlouse. Patrick told us all about each creature. He even knew what kind of butterfly/moth each caterpillar would soon become. We discussed carnivores and herbivores, ensuring we didn't put them in the same pot by accident!

Have a look at some of our finds below!
