We had grandparent’s day on Thursday, 31st January. We celebrated it by having a Mass so as to thank God for giving us such wonderful grandparents. We had done a lot of preparation for this day. We wrote poems and we sent them special invitations. Some of us made our invitations on the computer using a Word document. Others made theirs by hand.
We also brought in photographs of our grandparents. This was great fun because it was a way of showing off our grandparents. Most people know our parents but not our other relatives. Some of these photographs were older than others and these were very interesting because they showed us what our grandparents were like when they were young.
We had already done interviews with them at Christmas time so we had learned quite a bit about their lives already. This made us more connected to their lives and showed us how interesting and important their childhood was to them.
Our grandparents came from Dublin and indeed from all over the country to our Mass. Fr. Tony said the Mass. We sang two hymns and two of the grandparents brought gifts to the altar and one did a reading. We had a beautiful display of our work in the Church. We had a party afterwards, which the parish organised for us. We got drinks and chocolate bars. Some grandparents could not come but they were held in our hearts and we prayed for them. Some have gone to heaven and we prayed for them too.
Afterwards we went home. Some of us visited our grandparents who were in hospital or who could not make it to our Eucharist which means Thanksgiving.
