Outdoor Classroom
Our outdoor classroom has been very busy in Term 3. This area is a 'dry grassland habitat'. We have decided that we will not mow the grass in this area for the Summer as some of the plants and flowers growing here are quite rare. .......bee orchids, hawkbits, knapweed, birdsfoot trefoil, cinquefoil, ox-eye daisy, cowslips, black medick, clovers and yarrow.
There are some access strips to the outdoor benches by a mowed path through the meadow. In Autumn, the grassy areas will be cut back completely to the ground and all the cut plant materials will be removed once the plants have dropped their seeds.
This has given us a great opportunity in Term 3 to study the plants and butterflies. It also adds a nice burst of colour to the general area as we focus on and enjoy the biodiversity that is at hand!
